MAIN STREET HATBORO

In 1995, the Hatboro Main Street Program was launched to support and revitalize the historic downtown area of Hatboro Borough. Main Street Hatboro was officially incorporated in 2000 and received its non-profit 501(c) 3 status. Through the years, funding has been provided by local businesses, the Pennsylvania State Department of Community and Economic Development as well as the Borough of Hatboro and area residents. The community as a whole recognized that Hatboro enjoys a healthy downtown district as the heart of this community.

Main Street Hatboro is made up of a committed volunteer Board of Directors who meets monthly and oversees the vision and direction of the organization. Dedicated volunteers ensure the work of Main Street Hatboro is carried out. Main Street Hatboro volunteers are comprised of residence and business community members who care about preserving the quality of life in their neighborhood.

Our mission is clear:

Main Street Hatboro is a non-profit organization dedicated to the vitality of downtown Hatboro for the benefit of the entire community. The objectives of Main Street are based on a four-point approach for downtown revitalization developed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation: organization, economic restructuring, design, and promotion.

Our goals are understandable:

  • Promote the Business District and the entire Hatboro Community
  • Promote and Fundraise for the enhancement of Hatboro
  • Develop and implement programs for the betterment of the community

Partnerships with the Greater Hatboro Chamber of Commerce, Hatboro Borough Council and municipal staff, Union Library of Hatboro, Millbrook Society and Rotary along with other organizations and individuals enable Main Street Hatboro to fulfill its mission.

Evidence of Main Street’s work can be seen along York Road, the main thoroughfare of Hatboro’s business district. Victorian era lights, part of a $1.2 million improvement project, were added in 2000. Colorful baskets of flowers hang from the lights in the summer and residents work in partnership with merchants to see that downtown Hatboro is attractive. Design Challenge grants have been awarded to business property owners. Main Street Hatboro worked with Borough Officials to receive the grant dollars to create the revitalization plan for the borough. These are just a few of Main Street’s many contributions to the community since inception in 1995.
